New Zealand earthquake magnitude 6.3 hits Christchurch

New Zealand earthquake: a major quake hit New Zeland’s second largest city Tuesday, local time. Initial reports indicate collapsed buildings and possible casualties from the New Zealand earthquake.

For the second time in five months, New Zealand’s south island city of Christchurch was rocked by a major earthquake on Tuesday afternoon local time.

Underwater Volcanoes a Hotbed of Clues to Earth’s Movements

Nearly half a mile of rock retrieved from beneath the seafloor is yielding new clues about how underwater volcanoes are created and whether the underlying hot spots of molten rock that lead to their formation have moved over time.

Geoscientists have just completed an expedition, part of the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP), to a string of underwater volcanoes, or seamounts, in the Pacific Ocean known as the Louisville Seamount Trail.

Live baby dinosaur discovered in New Zealand

Most people grew up being taught that the mighty race of dinosaurs went extinct about 65 million years ago. But it’s not true; dinosaurs still walk the Earth.

No, it isn’t a T-Rex or a living relative of the Loch Ness Monster…but it is one of the oldest living creatures on Earth.

A dinosaur that didn’t go extinct 60 million years ago may be news to some people, including many Western paleontologists that have created a cottage industry debunking living dinosaur stories. Well here’s one they can’t debunk because even New Zealand scientists agree that this dinosaur specimen is the real deal!

For only the second time in more than two centuries a genuine baby dinosaur has been seen on the mainland of New Zealand and the news has scientists bubbling over with undisguised joy.
