100,000 People Facing ‘Food Crisis’ in Eastern Indonesia: Official
Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara. Almost 100,000 people in Indonesia’s East Nusa Tenggara province were facing a serious food crisis, an official said on Tuesday.
Nico Bala Nuhan, from the food resilience agency in the province, known as NTT, said a total of 95,937 people spread across 21 districts and cities were facing serious food shortages due to climate change-induced drought.
The districts included South Central Timor and North East Timor, Belu near the East Timor border, East Sumba, East Flores and Lembata in the Lesser Sunda Islands.

Harvard Scientists Discover an “Invisible” Planet
Harvard scientists have discovered what they have dubbed an “invisible planet.”While the planet is not actually invisible, scientists inferred its existence from “the influence it’s exerting on another planet,” bypassing more traditional methods of detecting planets that rely on visible evidence, lead researcher Sarah A. Study Blames Watching Popular Cartoons for Learning Deficiency Among Children
A U.S. study blamed popular cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants for learning problems among 4-year-old children.
The study had 60 children who were assigned to watch for 9 minutes SpongeBob or another PBS cartoon, Caillou, or to draw pictures. Mental functions tests were immediately administered on the tykes after their assigned tasks.

Some employers go to extraordinary lengths to monitor their employees’ movements. RailCorp, for example, plans to introduce fingerprint scanning (otherwise known as biometrics) for employees at fixed locations, while people working on multiple sites will be tracked by the GPS on their phone.

Hackers may target cars next, McAfee says

The increasingly sophisticated systems running a car may lead to new vulnerabilities, according to a study (PDF) released today from security software provider McAfee in partnership with mobile software provider Wind River and embedded security provider Escrypt. Those systems could allow hackers to take control of the car, track its location, and even access devices that are connected to it, including smartphones and tablets carrying valuable personal data.
The potential threat comes as hackers have increasingly shown a willingness to attack companies, government officials and agencies, and even Hollywood. Hacker groups such as Anonymous have caused headaches as they have stolen and released private information.

When Beijing Daxing International airport opens in 2015, the Chinese capital will become the world’s busiest aviation hub, handling around 370,000 passengers a day.
