Computer Program to Read Human Thoughts!
Computer Program to Read Human Thoughts! A research that appeared recently in the journal PLoS Biology has revealed about a way of using a computer program to help read a person’s brain and then put the findings into words.
A group of neuroscientists at the University of California Berkeley said that the technique could be beneficial for patients who have speech impairment or are affected by stroke and degenerative disease. The research is said to be capable of taking mind reading to a new level.
In order to reach at the conclusion, the study researchers conducted an experiment in which they enrolled brain surgery patients. They inserted electrodes in the skulls of the patients and connected them with a computer program. They did it so they could know the working of temporal lobe which is associated with the processing of speech and images.
It was revealed that the computer program was successful in analyzing the brain and could also reproduce the words it heard through brain. Another big revelation was that the computer program was also effective in reading what people are going to say next.
However, it is said that this discovery could prove dangerous as well. It is said that many people could find this discovery as a spy which could know each and every thing going in the minds of people. Robert Knight, a professor of psychology and neuroscience, said: “This is huge for patients who have damage to their speech mechanisms because of a stroke or Lou Gehrig’s [motor neurone] disease and can’t speak”. Co-author of the study, Brian Pasley, said that they tested 15 people who were already due to have brain surgery. They agreed to get 256 electrodes inserted in their brain. It helped them know that through computer program, they could know thoughts that revolve around in the brain.
