LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – A strong Mexico earthquake has erupted today. A terremoto en Mexico hoy, Thursday, December 27, 2012, began in the predawn morning hours centered in Baja California. The quake marks one of the strongest Mexico temblors to strike this December. No reports of damage have yet to be indicated by local news.

Officials tell news that a 4.7 magnitude Mexico earthquake erupted Thursday at 6:05 am local time. The quake, while strong, also posted a shallow epicenter. USGS indicates to news the Mexico earthquake erupted six miles below sea level in the Gulf of California, off the east coast of Baja California. The quake, however, could be felt to the west on the Baja peninsula.

USGS indicates to news that the Mexico earthquake began seventy-nine miles east of La Paz in Baja. The quake was ninety-nine miles west of the Sinaloa city of Navolato. The quake was also ninety-three miles southwest of Guasave and roughly seven hundred miles from Mexico City.

In June, a 3.1 magnitude quake struck the same region. The quake was centered forty-miles from Guadalupe Victoria in Baja California. The quake was forty-one miles southwest of Mexicali, as well. USGS indicated to news that the quake was only forty-two miles from Calexico and eighty miles from Tijuana.

In September, a 6.2 magnitude temblor erupted forty-seven miles north of La Paz in Baja. The quake was also ninety-six miles from Constitución. It was the same distance from the Sinaloa town of Ahome, officials tell news. The quake was, however, roughly seven hundred miles from Tijuana.
