Iran, Russia keen on expansion of ties

Tehran, Jan 5, IRNA – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in a telephone conversation on Thursday discussed the latest international and regional developments, as well as ways for consolidation of bilateral ties.

The two sides emphasized on the close cooperation between Tehran and Moscow for resolving the regional issues.

President Ahmadinejad and President Medvedev also emphasized on expansion of bilateral economic ties and trade transactions.

They said that trade transaction between two countries should be done by using the national currencies of both countries and eliminating the dollar from the transactions.

President Ahmadinejad emphasized on the Caspian Sea legal regime while noting that the useful agreements have been reached on avoiding the presence of foreign forces in the Caspian Sea which prevents the militarization of the sea.

Referring to the agreement reached on conducting the trade transactions with the national currencies of both countries, the president noted that the agreement will increase the volume of economic and trade transactions between Iran and Russia by several times.

President Dmitry Medvedev for his part said that Russia like the Islamic Republic of Iran favors the settlement of crises in some regional countries through peaceful means and holding talks while voicing its opposition to any foreign or military interference in the regional countries.

Referring to the potentials of cooperation between Iran and Russia, President Medvedev said that the potentials for cooperation between Tehran and Moscow is much higher than the existing level of cooperation.

The Russian president noted that Russia wants to increase the volume of trade transactions between Iran and Russia within the framework of bilateral economic agreements.

Referring to the importance of the Caspian Sea, President Medvedev said that he believes that Caspian Sea no foreign and trans-regional armed forces should be present in the Caspian Sea and the Caspian littoral states should decide how to use the natural resources of the Caspian Sea.

He said that Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant is a symbol of cooperation and friendship between Tehran and Moscow while reiterating on the continuation of such cooperation.

President Ahmadinejad and President Medvedev reiterated on Iran’s right to make use from peaceful nuclear energy.
