40 Places to hide your guns
In late December a New York newspaper, the Journal News, posted an interactive online map of New York residents in two counties who had gun permits. If you were a criminal looking to find a gun, the Journal News article was a treasure map leading you straight to the booty. Criminals broke into several of those homes shortly after the information was published. Just days ago, Journal News publishers conceded maybe it was a bad idea, and took down the gun map. But not before the damage had been done.
Most Americans will give up their guns when they are told do so. Not necessarily because they are afraid to die, although most are, but because they are so used to giving up what the government mandates be turned over. Guns may just be the next takeaway in a long list of abuses by the State.
Others will come to the conclusion that guns no longer serve a purpose vis-à-vis protection from government tyranny because they have already given up all the rights that matter. From free speech to freedom of the press, all that which was once held sacred has been fully abridged. Even Bill Maher, a liberal’s liberal, gets that irony.
Why I like Texas: they have something called the Castle Law allowing carry of weapons on a person’s property and in 2007 it was extended to a person’s vehicles. So carrying a loaded weapon in a vehicle within reach is now possible and you don’t even have to have a CHL…

North Korea threatens new nuclear test ‘aimed’ at US
Two days after the United Nations condemned North Korea with further sanctions for its December rocket launch, the secretive country vowed to respond with a nuclear weapons test aimed at its “enemy,” the United States.
The United Nations Security Council – including North Korea’s closest ally and biggest trading partner, China – voted unanimously on Tuesday to strengthen sanctions against North Korea for its Dec. 12 long-range rocket launch, which violated previous agreements with the UN.

National ‘assault weapon’ ban coming Thursday

Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s office confirmed that she will be introducing in the Senate Thursday a new version of the so-called assault weapon ban. A spokesman said the full text will be released at a press conference on Thursday.
The California Democrat intends to expand on the ban that expired in 2004, by including handguns and shotguns, in addition to rifles. She would decrease from two to one the number of cosmetic features on a gun to have it be considered an “assault weapon.” This means that if a gun has just one item like a pistol grip or bayonet lug, then it is illegal. Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed into law the same ban in New York last week.

Russia helping Iran accelerate nuke program
Iranian scientists – with Russian help – have set up two sites to use laser technology to enrich uranium for the regime’s nuclear bomb program, according to a source in the Revolutionary Guards intelligence unit.
The Russians had argued that due to IAEA monitoring and Western countries’ lurking satellites, it would be wise to use lasers to enrich uranium as, the source added, it is 16 times more productive, requires less space and energy, and is much easier to hide.
In 2010, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad boasted that Iran possessed laser enrichment technology, but the regime refused to respond to demands by the International Atomic Energy Agency to explain its laser program.

3.0-magnitude earthquake rocks North Texas
The U.S. Geological Survey reported a 3.0 magnitude earthquake struck near Irving Wednesday night.
The quake hit at 10:16 pm., with the epicenter in Irving just south of the intersection of the Bush Turnpike and Highway 114 and 3.5 miles east of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
The USGS said it measured the quake at a depth of 10 miles.
In the minutes following the tremor, WFAA’s Facebook page received more than 250 comments — most of which were from people who said they felt the earth unexpectedly shaking.
“I’m in Irving off 161 and Rochelle,” wrote John Hendry. “Felt a boom and house shook; no apparent damage.”
“It freaked me out!” wrote Tonya Taylor Paris from Euless near D/FW International Airport. “My whole house rattled and crackled after it happened. My front large window rattled really loud.”
“We all thought our chairs were moving due to a plane,” said Lisa Olivero Riccetti, who was at D/FW.
“It felt like a bus ran into the building,” wrote Martin Ross at Belt Line Road and Walnut Hill Lane in Irving.
“This is the third time this has happened since I lived in these apartments,” said Veronica Rodroguez-Harris in Irving.

Scientist: East Coast Cities are ‘Sitting Ducks’ for Storms
Cities on the United States east coast are “sitting ducks” for the next big storm because of the destruction wrought by Hurricane Sandy, one of Barack Obama’s top scientists warned on Tuesday.
Marcia McNutt, who last week announced her resignation as director of the U.S. Geological Survey, told a conference that Sandy had left coastal communities dangerously exposed to future storms of any size.

Rising China-US Tensions: Heading Towards Military Confrontation?
China’s priority is to maintain our attitude toward the Diaoyu Islands. We have to help other sides properly understand us. There should be no ambiguity when it comes to China’s willingness to counterattack in the event of a military provocation. As long as there is understanding, the words of the US won’t seem so important.
Outgoing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Friday that the US has no position on the Diaoyu Islands dispute. She did however, claim that the islands are under the administrative jurisdiction of Japan and that the US opposes any unilateral moves to encroach on Japan’s area of jurisdiction. This demonstrates that the US has admitted its bias in the Diaoyu Islands dispute.

Unprecedented glacier melting in the Andes blamed on climate change
Glaciers in the tropical Andes have been retreating at increasing rate since the 1970s, scientists write in the most comprehensive review to date of Andean glacier observations. The researchers blame the melting on rising temperatures as the region has warmed about 0.7°C over the past 50 years (1950-1994). This unprecedented retreat could affect water supply to Andean populations in the near future. These conclusions are published today in The Cryosphere, an Open Access journal of the European Geosciences Union (EGU).
