Americans endorse spycams, getting used to drones
A new poll has uncovered a “shocking willingness” on the part of Americans to give up their privacy and freedoms for the sake of “safety,” just at a time when the Obama administration is launching an assault on the self-defense rights guarded by the Second Amendment.
“As leaders in Washington prepare an assault on the Second Amendment, a majority of Americans – 61 percent – said they believe that domestic use of drones by government and law enforcement agencies represents a violation of people’s right to privacy,” said Fritz Wenzel, president of Wenzel Strategies.
It was his public-opinion research and media consulting company, Wenzel Strategies, that released the results of a telephone poll conducted for WND. It was taken Jan. 9-12 and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 3.22 percentage points.

New Proposal Will Force Gun Owners to Store Assault Weapons At Government Authorized Storage Depots
Because you can never have too many laws, regulations and mandates, Massachusetts State Representative David Linsky has filed a new bill that would, among other things, force gun owners to undergo mental health background checks, acquire liability insurance, pay an additional 25% tax on all forms of ammunition, and require firearms categorized as “assault weapons” to be stored outside of their homes and only at government approved storage depots.
“This bill is a comprehensive effort to reduce all types of gun violence – murders, intentional shootings, accidental shootings and suicides. There is not one solution to reducing gun violence – we can’t eliminate it – but there are a lot of common-sense steps that we can take to significantly reduce the everyday tragedy of gun violence and deaths,” said Linsky.

Thousands of dead fish wash ashore in Pawleys Island
PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC (WMBF) When you go to the beach you don’t expect to find hundreds of dead fish covering the shore.
Pawleys Island isn’t the first place this week to see the dead Menhaden fish on their shores. DeBordieu Beach had the same issue the day before, according to Chief Michael Fanning of the Pawleys Island Police Department.
Events like this happen from time to time, last year an influx of Star Fish were found on the same beaches, Fanning said.
It may be confusing to the people who live nearby, but Fanning says the state is looking into what may have killed the fish.

Big Google is watching you

While travelling overseas at Christmas we naturally turned off mobile data on our phones to avoid being ripped off by the phone companies’ rapacious data roaming charges.
Instead, everywhere I went I asked for the Wi-Fi password and sometimes didn’t even need one. No problem, although using Google maps to get around in the street was impossible.

Volcanic activity world-wide 11 January 2013: new activity at Etna and Stromboli, explosion from Kizimen, elevated activity at Santiaguito
The Plosky Tolbachnik volcano has erupted for the first time since the 1970s in Russia’s Far Eastern Kamchatka Peninsula.
Activity continues to be elevated. Last night, the eastern lava over flow was weakly active at the outer flank of the NE cone. Strong glow over the summit, despite partially dense cloud cover, indicates that the magma column inside is high and ready to produce more lava flows.
Etna volcano: Weak strombolian activity and a small intra-crater lava flow inside Bocca Nuova’s eastern pit could be seen on a webcam image this night. Tremor remains elevated.
Plosky Tolbachik volcano in Kamchatka continues to erupt fluid lava flows with no signs of the eruption ending soon.
Slow effusive activity and a thermal anomaly visible on satellite images continue also at nearby Bezymianny although Tolbachik’s seismic signal obscures the one from Bezymianny.
Weak intermittent explosive activity continues at Karymsky (Kamchatka).
Kliuchevskoi (Kamchatka) continues to have strombolian activity in its summit crater.
