LONDON, United Kingdon – Martial law seems imminent as 16,000 police officers, nearly twice the police officers in Haiti, will take to the streets in the captial city of London to hopefully prevent a fourth night of manifestations, rioting and looting.

Martial law provision secretly passed in Congress Committee
A noted human rights group spokesperson has stated that the mandatory military detention provision that the Senate Armed Services Committee secretly discussed and passed this week, is what martial-law states, not democracies do.
Andrea Prasow, Counterterrorism Human Rights Defender, challenges governments and individuals in power to end abusive practices and respect international human rights law.
The Senate Armed Services Committee’s vote this week redefined rules for detaining terrorism suspects, including giving power to military judges to review cases of prisoners in Afghanistan and mandating military detention for important Qaeda suspects even captured on United States soil according to The New York Times.
The Terrorism and Counterterrorism Program senior counsel for Human Rights Watch, Andrea Prasow said “mandatory military detention is what martial-law states do, not democracies” reported The Times.
Human Rights Watch is one of the world’s leading independent organizations dedicated to defending and protecting human rights.

Some areas in China under martial law after protests

(CNN) — In an apparent response to days of protests, Chinese authorities have declared martial law in parts of the northeast’s inner Mongolia autonomous region, according to Amnesty International.
The region has long been the scene of ethnic tension between Mongolians, who have lived in the area for centuries, and the Han people, who arrived in larger numbers after the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. Han people are the majority ethnic group in China.
In the report released Friday, Amnesty International detailed protests in and around the city of Xilinhot.
CNN contacted officials in the affected areas, but they declined to comment.

On October 14, 1981 Muhammad Hosni Sayyid Mubarak assumed the Presidency of Egypt following the assassination of President Anwar El Sadat. He is the longest-serving Egyptian ruler since Muhammad Ali Pasha. He announced today that he will not resign but will handover power to Vice President Omar Suleiman ,however, he will no longer run for office.

Since January 25, 2011, for a total of 17 days, a popular uprising from the people of Egypt called for his resignation as president of Egypt due to corruptness and illegal activities that the government was associated with. Because of inflation, many Egyptians are currently struggling to feed themselves as the country’s food crisis is beginning to spiral out of control utilizing anywhere between 40 to 60 percent of their wages going to food.
With this announcement brings many questions to mind. Who will lead Egypt? What will the future of Egypt bring to the world? How will this affect the relationship with Israel and the United States? Is this just a preview of what is to come in other Middle East/ North Africa countries whom are in an eerily similar format? What will happen with crude oil prices?
