Earth’s Dirty Secret: Our Magnetic Field Traps Antimatter

Satellite confirms the existence of antimatter belts surrounding our planet, opens hopes for fuel use

The proton is a familiar figure for those who have taken high school physics. With a +1 charge it is a key constituent to most of the matter of the universe. But nature holds an outlandish vanishing twin — the antiproton. This exotic antimatter particle carries a -1 charge.

Fifty-six years after their first laboratory observation, a treasure trove of antiprotons — a component of antimatter (right) — has been discovered within the Earth’s magnetic field.

Now astrophysicists have discovered a treasure trove of antimatter hidden in the Earth’s magnetic field, which could hold the key to grand insights and new space travel possibilities.

I. What is Antimatter?

The antiproton was first predicted by luminary physicist Paul Dirac in his 1933 Nobel Prize lecture [PDF]. It would take physicists over two decades to prove Professor Dirac right. In 1955 Emilio Segrè and Owen Chamberlain, research professors at the University of California, Berkley, Read more…

CERN ‘gags’ physicists about role of cosmic rays in climate change

July 20, 2011 – DENMARK – The chief of the world’s leading physics lab at CERN in Geneva has prohibited scientists from drawing conclusions from a major experiment. The CLOUD (“Cosmics Leaving Outdoor Droplets”) experiment examines the role that energetic particles from deep space play in cloud formation. CLOUD uses CERN’s proton synchrotron to examine nucleation. CERN Director General Rolf-Dieter Heuer told Welt Online that the scientists should refrain from drawing conclusions from the latest experiment. “I have asked the colleagues to present the results clearly, but not to Read more…

Behemoth sunspots evolve

The CME was not squarely Earth-directed and is not traveling at great speed, only minor geomagnetic storming is expected when the cloud arrives. A coronal mass ejection (CME) that billowed away from sunspot 1247 on July 9th could hit Earth’s magnetic field on July 12th.

The SDO team has just prepared a beautiful movie of the explosion that produced the CME.

Sunspot group 1247 is expanding rapidly and in an interesting way. The active region is organizing itself as a linear Read more…

Experts: Mega-Quakes Can Create Pole Shifts

May 28, 2011 1 comment

Mega-thrust earthquakes like the ones that recently struck Chile and the Fukushima region of Northern Japan, can cause the magnetic field to flip. If a quake is strong enough there is evidence it may even set off a geological pole shift tossing the Earth off its current axis and killing billions of people within a matter of minutes.

This the grim picture painted by decades of research and evidence strewn from the peaks of the Andes to the volcanic shards lying off the Pacific islands of Hawaii.

Cities could be swept away in the blink of an eye

Enormous earthquakes cause enormous damage. The threat is real and growing, as world renown physicist and popular science author, Dr.Michio Kaku , recently explained on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

According to Dr. Kaku, some of the world’s most important and populated cities could be swept away in the blink of an eye. “In our life time, we could very well see one of these cities destroyed,” Kaku claimed. “Los Angeles, San Francisco, Mexico City, Tehran, and Tokyo.”

It is actually Mankind and not nature that has placed up to one billion people at risk. “We are creating mega cities where there used to be Read more…

NASA issues warning of solar superstorm 2012: One billion could die

Could a superstorm generated by the sun destroy civilization as we know it in 2012?

No less than NASA thinks it’s a distinct possibility. In a remarkable move the normally conservative US space agency has taken the extraordinary step of warning the world.

The headlines reverberating around the world speak volumes: ‘Leaks discovered in Earth’s magnetic field,’ Solar storms to wreak havoc,’ ‘The end of life as we know it,’ ‘Magnetic shift to cause global superstorms.’

 Can such things really happen?

NASA and the European Space Agency say yes.

Among all the countries with exposure to the solar devastation, the United States is the most susceptible. Read more…

Giant ocean whirlpools puzzle scientists

US scientists discovered two giant whirlpools in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Guyana and Suriname. It became a sensational discovery because this part of the ocean has been studied thoroughly, and no one expected anything like that to appear in the area. More importantly, no one can understand where the whirlpools came from and what surprises they may bring to people.

According to Brazilian scientist Guilherme Castellane, the two funnels are approximately 400 kilometers in diameter. Until now, these were not known on Earth. The funnels reportedly exert a strong influence on climate changes that have been registered during the recent years.

“Funnels rotate clockwise. They are moving in the ocean like giant frisbees, two discs thrown into the air. Rotation occurs at a rate of one meter per second, the speed is Read more…

Strong geomagnetic storm slams Earth on Wednesday

(TheWeatherSpace.com) — A solar storm is in progress right now with the highest Kp-index in a while being recorded.

The solar storm has a Kp-Index of 6, out of the 0-9 scale. This is higher than any previous solar storms, including the March event. What caused this without a flare?

“This solar storm is likely a flare caused storm,” TheWeatherSpace.com Senior Meteorologist Kevin Martin said. “It may not have been Earth directed but a blast from the sun a couple days ago hurled a lot of material into space. This material sometimes does not follow a straight line, but can curve with the influence of magnetic fields and gravity.”

Mid and High latitude observer should check out the skies and see if the northern and southern lights are around.

Martin is the scientist that thinks solar storms are triggers to earthquake activity. Will it cause a large quake? Time will tell but enjoy the skies for the next nine hours if it is clear, dark, and you are in a higher latitude.

Magnetic Monster: Geomagnetic Field Reveals Increasing Danger of ‘Continent Killing’ Quakes

The earth’s history is one of violence.

Doomsday

(CHICAGO) – Russian geophysicist Pogrebnikov concurs with his colleagues at Harvard and Stanford: the earth may be in for a hell of a time.

Imagine events just short of doomsday and you’ll have a small glimpse of the global catastrophes that may lie just ahead.

Some scientists have seen this future—and the future is damn scary.

The former geologist Jim Berkland also “sees the future” on a regular basis, at least as far as earthquakes are concerned. He watches the geomagnetic field by watching aberrations in animals: odd actions, bizarre events, eerie mass deaths.

And the world’s animals are self-destructing in swarms, hordes, flocks.

The magnetite embedded in many animal’s brains make them sensitive to changes in the magnetic field. When that field is disrupted, some animals go mad. They get lost. Whales beach themselves. Birds desperately soar in confused flight and crash into each other, the ground and buildings.

Sometimes they just fall from the sky and die.

Berkland, a former USGS scientist has an 80 percent success rate predicting significant Read more…

NASA: Huge Solar Flare Jamming Radio And Satellite Signals, Could Affect Electric Grid, Bright Auroras Expected

February 17, 2011 Comments off

According to NASA, a large solar eruption triggered a giant geomagnetic storm that has disturbed radio communications and could disrupt electrical power grids, radio and satellite communication in the next days

The calm before the storm. Three CMEs are enroute, all a part of the Radio Blackout events on February 13, 14, and 15 (UTC). The last of the three seems to be the fastest and may catch both of the forerunners about mid to late day tomorrow, February 17. Watch this space for updates on the impending — G2, possibly periods of G3 — geomagnetic storming.
